Israel-Gaza war: Biden to halt some arms supplies if Israel invades Rafah

President Joe Biden has warned Israel that the U.S. will stop supplying certain weapons if Israel launches a major ground operation in Rafah, Gaza.

Rafah, a densely populated area in southern Gaza and a stronghold for Hamas, has seen an influx of refugees and is crucial for aid entry and exit of civilians.

In a CNN interview, Biden stated the U.S. would withhold weapons historically used in Rafah if Israel initiates a ground operation there, emphasizing the need to prevent civilian casualties.

Despite U.S. opposition, Israel seems poised for a large-scale invasion. Israeli tanks have already taken control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing with Egypt.

Biden faces pressure from Democrats and the U.S. public to curb Israeli military actions in Gaza due to rising civilian deaths and worsening humanitarian conditions.

Delegations from Israel and Hamas have resumed negotiations in Cairo, focusing on a ceasefire and the exchange of hostages and prisoners.

The U.S. has delayed a shipment of bombs to Israel and is reviewing future deliveries, with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirming this during Senate testimony.

Talks between the U.S. and Israel continue, aiming to address concerns over military tactics and the humanitarian impact in Gaza. Both nations seek to resolve disputes quietly and effectively.
